How to take L-Arginine?
Take one-three capsules daily with food.
The standard pre-workout dose for L-arginine is 3-6g.
To maintain elevated arginine levels throughout the day, arginine can be taken up to three times a day, with a combined dose total of 15-18g. Note: L-Citrulline supplementation is more effective at maintaining elevated arginine levels for long periods of time.
Taking more than 10g of arginine at once can result in gastrointestinal distress and diarrhoea.
Thought to be safe for most when taken orally in the correct dosage in the short term. Possible side effects include bloating, abdominal pain, blood abnormalities, gout, diarrhoea, airway inflammation, allergies, low blood pressure and the worsening of asthma.
L-arginine can cause a severe allergic reaction in those with asthma and other allergies. It can cause the airways to swell and should be used with caution if you suffer from either of these.
Those with herpes should be careful as recent research suggests that l-arginine helps the virus to multiply.
If you suffer from low blood pressure l-arginine can make it drop further.
If you have recently suffered a heart attack then you should be aware that l-arginine could possibly increase the risk of death especially in older people. Do not take l-arginine if you have suffered a heart attack recently.
As l-arginine can effect blood pressure you should not take it if you have scheduled surgery as it can make the blood pressure difficult to control during the surgery. Stop taking this supplement at least 2 weeks before you surgery.

In some clinical trials, L-Arginine was able to used safely, and with minimal side effects on test subjects. These clinical trials would run for three months and the side effects that were minimal.
